SCHOOL PRINCIPAL BEATEN OVER HIJAB

The hijab, a scarf embedded in the cultural dressing of Islam. In Nigeria, religious fanatics and dogma had taking the issue of Islamic dressing to the head so much that ladies go around perpetuating mishaps under the umbrella of cultural norm, most times with hijab on their head. A more common case is when Islamic brothers go around beating up anyone who speaks ill about their sisters hijab like they are the sons of Jacob. About 10-12 months ago news were making rounds about Islamic brothers beating principals of Christian missionary schools who are motivated enough to speak against the wearing of hijab in the school. The dragon's egg is hatched again. The new education policy in Osun State claimed its first casualty on Monday as fierce-looking Muslim youths invaded the Baptist High School, Ejigbo, and beat up the students and teachers. The principal of the school, Mr. Layi Oguntola, was thoroughly beaten and injured. Oguntola, as of the time of this report, was said to be receiv

WATER: The fluid of life

A lot of us undermine the advantages of water. We seem to forget that the most commonly used natural resources is water. All organisms use water. Even the non-living food need water to be cooked. Water has become the second most popular drink (behind soft drinks). Joan Koelemay, RD, dietitian for the Beverage Institute, an industry group, says "Think of water as a nutrient your body needs that is present in liquids, plain water, and foods. All of these are essential daily to replace the large amounts of water lost each day," Kaiser Permanente nephrologist Steven Guest, MD, agreed when he said "Fluid losses occur continuously, from skin evaporation, breathing, urine, and stool, and these losses must be replaced daily for good health," Here are a few things water can do for you: 1. DRINKING WATER HELP TO MAINTAIN BODY BALANCE: Your body is composed of about 60% water. The functions of these bodily fluids include digestion, absorption, circulation, creation of saliva

10 Heartwarming Acts Of Kindness Done By The Poor

This is a list with the stories we need, the kind that rejuvenates us and restores our faith in humanity. Not only that, it’s nice to know that the ones who get the limelight here are the poor. Too often, we stereotype them as nothing more than lazy bums, when we don’t realize they can also be capable of doing good deeds. As this list shows, some of them are just downright awesome. 10. Shoolgirls Got New Clothes Eleven schoolgirls at a special needs school in India got a special treat when they were given new clothes by a generous donor. However, what made this moment special was that the donor wasn’t a rich man at all—it was a 64-year-old beggar. Khimjibhai Prajapati used to run a small tea store until it folded and he was forced to beg on the streets. However, that untoward event hasn’t changed his views on life one bit, as he has c ontinued to help those more unfortunate than himself. In fact, upon being interviewed about the donation, he revealed that he had wanted to give someth

10 THINGS YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO

We very well know that live is too short and you don't have to do half the things you spend your time doing. By the time you are 40, the things you would regret most are those things you are suppose to do but didn't do.  Here is my list of 10 things you don't have to do 10. Don't ever listen to anyone but yourself. You can review other people's advice but don't feel compelled to take to them. 9. Don't always take people's mistake as a your guiding light. If you made a mistake it's not because you did the wrong thing but because you did the right thing the wrong way. So when people make a mistake don't count on it to guide you step. Instead of abandoning your desire because of someone else's mistake, see a different approach towards achieving that desire. 8. Don't always stick to a particular desire or a thing you want. TWO LAMIDOS ARRESTED FOR LOATHING 10 BILLION NAIRA

Two sons of the Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, were arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged laundering of about N10billion. The sons, Mustapha and Aminu Lamido were brought to Abuja at about 9am on Friday. They were being interrogated as at press time. But there were fears last night that the arrest of the two sons was linked to the ongoing crackdown on G-7 governors According to a top source, who spoke in confidence, the suspects were picked up in Dutse, Jigawa State following alleged diversion of state funds into their accounts. It was gathered that the ongoing investigation of the alleged mismanagement of the N10billion led to the invasion of Jigawa by the EFCC operatives. Although the governor was linked to the laundering of the said funds, the EFCC could not arrest him because he enjoys constitutional immunity. The source said: “You will recall that we had earlier secured the conviction of Aminu for laundering $40,000. This incide

TIPS ON HEALTHY BREAKFAST

Waking up in the morning and rushing to work with an empty stomach may not be the right way to a healthy living. Eating a nutritious food in the morning boosts your energy and strengthens your body system for daily activities. Here are some simple foods that can be eaten without taking time to prepare: 1. Watermelon- Water melon is an excellent way to hydrate in the morning. Watermelon contains just 40 calories per cup, landing it on lists of so-called negative-calorie foods that supposedly burn more calories during digestion than they add in. This juicy fruit is among the best sources of lycopene- a nutrient found in red fruits and vegetables that is important for vision, heart health, and cancer prevention. 2 . BlueBerries- Studies suggest that eating blueberries regularly can help improve everything from memory and motor skills to blood pressure and metabolism. Blueberries are also lower in calories than a lot of other fruits (they contain just 80 per cup). 3. Strawberries-

FACT ABOUT RED MEAT

If you believe the raw red meat’s red juice is blood, you’re wrong. In meat bought from a store or washed from the abattoir, there’ll be very little blood in the red liquid. It’s actually a mixture of water and a protein called myoglobin. The myoglobin is a common globular protein similar to the haemogloblin in the red blood, which has the ability to store oxygen in muscle cells. The myoglobin has a high level of red pigment, so the more myoglobin the meat has, the redder it will be. The terms “red meat” and “white meat” are actually an indicator for the level of myoglobin. Most mammals are red meat, because their myoglobin level is high, while most poultry are considered as white meat. This protein is also the main reason that the red meat turns darker while you’re cooking it. During the heating process, iron atoms of the myoglobin lose electrons and they move up to a higher oxidation level. Thus, the meat turns from pinkish-red to brown.

SEX IN THE BUS: A Revelation by PUNCH correspondent Ademola Olonilua

Night travel may be fraught with a lot of dangers in Nigeria where highways are not in the best condition and robbers use the state of the roads as an opportunity to ambush interstate commercial vehicles. But in spite of these inherent dangers, there seems to be no reduction in the number of people who choose to go on journeys in the night. Investigation bySaturday PUNCHshowed that the attraction of some of the passengers to the night travel was more bizarre as much as it was almost unbelievable. WhenSaturday PUNCHvisited some parks to investigate, it found out passengers preferred night travels for different reasons. At Jibowu, an area of Lagos where luxury buses load passengers to the Eastern part of the country, Chidioke Ekezie, a motorboy attached to a bus of one of the popular transport operators in Lagos, gave an insight into life on night buses, which he explained could be very vibrant and “interesting” as a result of the duration of the journeys. “There has never been a time th

A prominent member of the union, who craved anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on behalf of the union, toldSaturday PUNCH that doing this would give the association the confidence that “the Federal Government knows what it is doing when it signed the agreement.” He said, “I must tell you that our mandate remains. We have not reached any agreement with the Federal Government. “Since the Federal Government  wants to be releasing N220bn every year for five years, then all monetary and regulatory agencies must sign.
