THE MOTHER WHO BURNT HER DAUGHTER'S BUTTOCKS

A woman in her 30's, Ene Edem Okon, has been arrested by the police for child abuse and allegedly inflicting bodily harm and tying her 11-year-old daughter, Queeneth Ene Edem, hands and legs for being wayward. She was arrested when Queeneth appeared in her school, Government Primary School, Akim, with multiple wounds on her chest, stomach and buttocks prompting the school authorities to report the matter to the police at the Akim Police Station. The girl narrated to Sunday Vanguard that, on February 17, she left home at Eneyo village in Akpabuyo Local Government Area for the Maternity Junction Settlement, some four kilometers away from home, to meet her cousin, Blessing, but did not return home. “We were waiting for Blessing’s friend from whom she wanted to collect something but she delayed in coming and we waited till night and, because we were afraid of going back home, we slept in an uncompleted building at the Maternity Junction”, she said. The 11-year-old said the next day,

MEET A KNOWN ENEMY OF WATER

It is said that water has no enemy but i think she is against some 35 people in the world if the drowned victims are not considered. Meet the woman who is trapped indoors every time it rains due to a rare condition that means she’s allergic to water. Rachel Prince, 26, from Ripley in England has been unable to go outdoors the past month as a single drop of rainfall will cause a painful itchy red rash. Recent weather conditions — some of the wettest to hit the UK in 200 years — have seen Rachel housebound. And she can’t even seek comfort from her fiance Lee Warwick, 28, because the saliva from a kiss also causes a reaction. Rachel’s condition, Aquagenic pruritis, means even a few drops of saliva from Lee could bring out an extremely itchy prickling-like rash. The allergy also means that 26-year-old Rachel cannot go for long baths or even drink a cold glass of water as it makes her throat swell up whenever she takes a sip. The condition is so rare it’s believed Rachel is one of on

A CHRISTIAN MISSIONARY ARRESTED IN NORTH KOREA

North Korea has arrested a 75-year-old Australian man working as a Christian missionary in Pyongyang, according to his family. North Korea is ranked as one of the world’s most oppressive regimes in terms of freedom of religion. A United Nations report issued on Tuesday cited lack of religious freedom in a state whose human rights abuses it likened to those of Nazi Germany. North Korea was faulted this week in a sharply critical United Nations report for, among other things, its intolerance of religious freedom. The report cited the North’s practice of “extermination,” murder, enslavement, torture, rape and persecution on grounds of race, religion and gender. The family said in a press release that John Short was on his second trip to North Korea and was in possession of religious materials that had been translated into Korean. He is the second Christian missionary being held by the North, the other is Kenneth Bae, a South Korean with US citizenship. Karen Short, John’s wife, told

THE GIRL WHO CRIED STONES

A little india girl has amazed the world and ofcourse doctors by crying stones instead of tears. The Yemeni girl, 12, produces little hard stones under her eyelids. Doctors said they still could not give an explanation for such a phenomenon since the girl, Saadiya Saleh, is not suffering from any known disease. Unfortunately this triggered a panic in rural areas where they assumed the girl must be possessed by magic. A YouTube film aired by Yemen’s Azal satellite TV channel showed doctors gathered a small box full of stones that dropped out of the girl’s eyes in just a few hours. The local presenter said: “This case in the second strange phenomenon in the region.” “The case has triggered panic in the area where this girl lives… Some say the girl could be gripped by a magic spell while others say it might be the devil… Others fear it could be the start of a dangerous epidemic.”
