NIGERIAN PRESIDENT BACK TO NIGERIA and other updates

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that President Jonathan who fell ill in London thanked Nigerians for their show of solidarity, concern and best wishes. The president is back to Nigeria after he was pronounced ill on attending the 15th meeting of the Honorary International Investors Council London. Although rumor has it that the president had hangover after having too much to drink at the ceremony. President Goodluck Jonathan confirmed his meeting the group of seven governors who are estranged from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will hold this week despite the seeming escalation of the crisis between the governors and the party. Speaking with reporters shortly after he landed at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International from London, President Jonathan also confirmed receipt of the report of the committee he set up to investigate the purchase of armoured vehicles by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority allegedly for the minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah. Punch newspaper has it that President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the termination of Mrs. Aisha Umar as his Special Assistant on Social Development. A terse statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by Mr. Sam Nwaobasi, the Special Assistant (Media) to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim with Ref. No: PPR/OSGF/PR/02 did not however give any reason for the action. According to him, the termination of Umar’s appointment was “with effect from the November 25, 2013.” The President had exactly three months ago sacked the Minister of Youth Development, Inuwa Abdulkadir, over the mishandling of the National Youth Council of Nigeria’s elections in Makurdi and Minna which resulted in the factionalisation of NYCN. The President has also sacked his Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters, Mrs. Joy Emordi and his Special Adviser on the New Partnership for Africa’s Development, Dr. Tunji Olagunju
