FACT OF THE DAY

Nigerian golden eaglet are the most prolific under 17 team since the onset of the championship in 1985 (FIFA U-16 championship). They were the first to win the cup and had won it most times. Out of the 9 editions of the championship, NIGERIA'S GOLDEN EAGLET has won the championship 4 times all in the ASIAN continent. First, it happened in CHINA at the opening edition of the championship in 1985 defeating WEST GERMANY at their very first apearance. Then in 1993, our GOLDEN EAGLET again thought the rest what football is. They defeated Ghana in the techno country of Japan another Asian Nation. History again repeated itself at south Korea in 2007. Our own ever efficient EAGLET soar in cold picking out the finest goal against the giant of football, SPAIN, in yet another Asian country. Today, another day of real football, our eaglet made it know to the world what their claws are capable of doing on the pitch of the United Arab Emirates. They did not play soccer with rest, they taught the world real soccer. The championship started the group F and ended with the same team Nigeria vs Mexico. The only difference was, Nigeria coach Mexico both time. 6-1 first, 3-0 last. This is not history, this is the beginning of the future.

97 years old rapist declared not fit for trial

A 97-YEAR-OLD man, Lionel Veck, accused of raping and indecently assaulting a child is not fit to stand trial, a judge has ruled. Judge Sarah Munro QC has suspended legal proceedings against retired butcher Lionel Veck, from Preston Road, North End, Portsmouth. He had denied one count of rape and two counts of indecently assaulting a woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, between 1972 and 1977 when she was aged under 16. Veck, who was thought to be Britain’s oldest competitive cyclist when he took part in a 10-mile time trial between Havant and Chichester in 2011, was initially found fit to stand trial at a court hearing in September. The decision followed the results of a psychiatric report. But prosecutor Kerry Maylin applied for the proceedings against Veck to be stayed during a brief hearing at Portsmouth Crown Court.
