THE ACT OF GOLD

As short as life is, people won't cease to see beyond timidity and take their stand even in a sinking situation. Such people with such acts are not only recognized by temporal awards that will soon perish, even the celestials and the God of all things would be proud of such people.
Pakistan’s prime minister has approved a top civilian honour for a teenager who died stopping a Taliban suicide bomber from attacking his school.
“His brave act saved the life of hundreds of students and established a sterling example of gallantry and patriotism,” Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said in announcing that the Sitara-i-Shujaat (order of bravery) would be conferred on Aitizaz Hasan.
Hasan, 15, a ninth-grade student in the restive north-western province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, was killed on January 6 when he tackled the bomber at the gate of the school compound.
The bomber detonated his device, killing himself and Hasan at the school in the district of Hangu. No one else was killed or wounded. His family is to receive the posthumous award on March 23, which is Pakistan’s national day, following the president’s ceremonial assent.
Only a few teenagers have received civil awards in Pakistan, including Malala Yousafzai, the campaigner for girls’ education who was shot in the head by the Taliban in 2012.
Nasir Khan Durrani, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police chief, recommended Hasan for the award to recognise his “bravery and courage”.
Parliament passed a resolution paying tribute to Hasan, while his act of bravery has been hailed in Pakistani newspapers, social media and on television. Hasan’s father, Mujahid Ali Bangash, said on Thursday that he felt pride at his son’s actions.
“Many people are coming to see me but if they try to express sympathy, I tell them to congratulate me instead on becoming the father of a martyr,” he told the Express Tribune newspaper.
